Overview:
Cumberland County is home to a growing biotech industry.
Small and medium sized companies supply international
pharmaceutical firms with products ranging from
vaccines to precision glass. Situated within an
easy commute of the region's major biotech markets,
Cumberland County offers an affordable alternative
to many of the area's more expensive addresses.
Companies can still take advantage of the world-class
scientific, legal, and accounting services of the
region while realizing significant savings in development,
labor, and production costs. Cumberland County provides
below-market financing and a range of technical
assistance to biotech start- ups and other expanding
companies. State-of-the-art industrial parks, a
major airport, a foreign trade zone, an urban enterprise
zone and a federal empowerment zone all add to the
corporate advantages that Cumberland County offers.
Situated in southern New Jersey, mid-way between
the Delaware Memorial Bridge and Cape May, Cumberland
County is less than an hour's drive from Philadelphia
and Wilmington. The Princeton Corridor and metropolitan
New York are less than two hours away, and the Washington
D.C. market is a three-hour commute. When this level
of access is combined with below-market business
costs, Cumberland County offers unparalleled advantages
to biotech and other companies.
The County's workforce development programs are
well known throughout the State. For biotechnology
firms interested in locating or expanding in the
County, customized training and other recruitment
initiatives can provide new companies with a ready-to-go
workforce, at little or no cost to the company itself.
In addition, the County offers an excellent quality
of life. Small, historic towns and villages are
situated along the Delaware Bay. The cost of housing
is well below other parts of the region. In fact,
Cumberland County was recently named by the National
Association of Home Builders as one of the most
affordable places to live in the Country. Executive
homes can be purchased for much less money than
the same homes elsewhere, yet world-class culture
and entertainment are just a short drive away. A
new arts district in Millville, expanding retail
opportunities in Vineland, and the State's oldest
zoo in Bridgeton, add to a growing list of the County's
resident and visitor amenities.
The Department of Planning & Development is
an important contact for new companies seeking to
move to the County. The Department staff has an
excellent understanding of the County, its assets
and opportunities. Interested inquiries can be directed
